The McNary National Wildlife Refuge offers a convenient concrete boat ramp at the southern end of the Peninsula Unit in Burbank, providing access to Casey Pond and the Columbia River's Lake Wallula reservoir. The launch facility has ample parking with capacity for approximately 30 boat trailers and 55 vehicles, making it suitable for day-use boaters and paddlers. In addition to the main ramp, boaters may access the refuge by launching from any suitable point along approximately 14 miles of refuge shoreline.
Lake Wallula is a large, slow-moving reservoir formed by McNary Dam, making it ideal for recreational boating, kayaking, and canoeing. The calm water conditions and extensive shoreline provide good opportunities for exploration and wildlife viewing. Keep in mind that while refuge islands are accessible by boat, they are closed to public landing. The nearby Charbonneau Park and Campground (about 10 miles away) offers reserved camping for those planning multi-day trips. Be sure to check current refuge regulations and any seasonal restrictions before your visit, as the area is primarily managed as a wildlife refuge.
