About This Access Site
The Messalonskee Lake north access point is located in Oakland on Augusta Road (ME-27), south of Belgrade, providing excellent boat launching and parking facilities for paddlers and boaters. This ramp offers convenient access to Messalonskee Lake, the lowermost lake in the Messalonskee chain, which features a heavily developed shoreline with both permanent and seasonal residences. The location makes it an ideal starting point for exploring the lake's calmer waters.

Paddlers can expect a scenic paddling environment with opportunities to observe wildlife, including Northern Harriers above the marshes and Warbling Vireos and Baltimore Orioles in the shoreline trees. The lake ultimately drains to the Kennebec River in Waterville via Messalonskee Stream, offering potential for extended paddling trips downstream. Well-maintained launch facilities at this northern access point make it suitable for kayaks, canoes, and motorboats of various sizes.
