Miller Creek is a boat ramp facility providing access to Lewis and Clark Lake, a large reservoir on the Nebraska/South Dakota border created by Gavins Point Dam. Located near Crofton in Knox County, this is one of several ramps available in the Lewis and Clark State Recreation Area. The site includes a campground and hiking trail, making it a good base for extended paddling trips. Paddlers should be aware that portions of the spillway and tailrace near Gavins Point Dam are designated no-wake zones.
Lewis and Clark Lake offers excellent opportunities for kayaking and canoeing across its expansive waters. The lake is known for walleye and catfish fishing, with fish behavior varying seasonally—walleye move to shallow, rocky areas in spring and deeper waters in summer and winter. The lake itself is part of the broader Missouri National Recreational River system, a scenic 100-mile stretch that preserves remnants of the historic American West landscape.
For planning your visit, note that the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has been working on facility improvements at Miller Creek and other access areas, including temporary parking lot expansion and additional mooring docks. Nearby camping options include Pierson Ranch Camp within 10 miles and facilities within the recreation area itself. Arrive early during peak season, as parking and ramp availability may be limited.
