The Monessan boat ramp is located in Monessen, Westmoreland County, PA, on the Monongahela River. From the intersection of PA-481, PA-88/837, and 1st Street in Monongahela, head south on PA-837 for 1.3 miles, then turn left on Nelston Street to reach the access point.

**Current Status & River Conditions:**
**Important Note:** The boat ramp is currently non-functional due to water level changes from a recent U.S. Army Corps of Engineers project. Before planning a trip, verify current conditions with local authorities. The Monongahela River is a large, powerful waterway (stream order 7) with an average flow of over 13,000 cubic feet per second and moderate gradient (1.2 ft/mile). Paddlers should be prepared for significant current and plan accordingly.

If the Monessan ramp is unavailable, Riverside Wharf Park offers an alternative access point on Water Street and welcomes canoes, kayaks, and small to medium motorboats. Note that this ramp has a steep grade and should be inspected before launching. The region is part of the Rivers of Steel National Heritage Area, offering rich industrial and outdoor recreation history.
