The Monterey Harbor and Marina offers excellent access to Monterey Bay for kayakers, canoeists, and small boaters. The harbor features two free public boat ramps that allow easy launch and retrieval of small craft. The ramps are located adjacent to the harbormaster's office, providing a convenient launching point.
Beyond the launch ramps, the harbor also manages a designated special anchorage area with around 150 private mooring buoys. This provides an option for securing your boat within the protected waters of the harbor. The overall marina offers 408 total covered slips and tie-ups, accommodating a wide range of vessel sizes up to 50 feet.
Monterey Bay is part of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, offering paddlers and boaters the chance to explore one of the most spectacular marine protected areas on the California coast. With its diverse habitats and abundant wildlife, the bay is a popular destination for recreational water sports and wildlife viewing. Boaters and paddlers should be aware of safety considerations when venturing out into the open waters of the bay.
