About This Access Site
Spencer Bay offers a public boat launch on Moosehead Lake's west side, accessible via Hardwood Valley Road in Spencer Bay Township. This access point provides convenient entry to Maine's largest lake, making it an ideal starting point for kayakers and canoeists exploring the region.

Moosehead Lake is a substantial 74,890-acre water body with a maximum depth of 246 feet, offering diverse paddling opportunities across its expansive surface. Be aware that the lake features navigation hazard and safety zone markers beginning approximately 200 feet from shore, and shallow bays and coves require cautious navigation. Paddlers should note that water levels typically drop at least three feet by late fall, which may affect access in certain areas.

The Spencer Bay access complements other public launch points on the lake, including the Greenville Junction ramp at the lake's southern tip. This location works well for paddlers planning multi-day trips or exploring the western portions of Moosehead Lake.
