Mud Island Marina offers convenient public boat ramp access to the Mississippi River in Memphis, just east of Mud Island itself. The marina is located at River Mile 735.0 and can be accessed by passing the I-55 and Railroad Bridges from the south, then keeping to starboard and entering the channel east of Mud Island—the marina entrance is approximately 1 mile up the channel on the left. A south ramp is available for launching boats past the marina area. Fuel service is available 24 hours a day, making this a useful resupply point for longer trips.
Paddlers and boaters should be prepared for the Mississippi River's substantial size and current conditions. This major river (Stream Order 10) carries an average flow of 685,000+ cubic feet per second with an average velocity of 11.24 feet/second, meaning strong currents and significant commercial traffic can be expected. The river at this location sits at approximately 3-4 meters elevation with a gentle average gradient of 0.8 feet/mile. For additional supplies and services, nearby options include Miss Cordelia's in Harbortown and City Market downtown (accessible via Front Street toward the Cossitt Library area).
