Nails Creek provides a well-developed boat ramp for accessing Somerville Lake, a large impoundment of the Brazos River in Lee County near Ledbetter. The facility features two-lane ramps capable of handling all boat types, plus parking, restrooms, and cleaning stations. This is one of eleven boat ramps around the lake, making it a reliable launch point for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboaters. The site is located within Nails Creek State Park, a US Army Corps of Engineers facility.
To reach Nails Creek from Giddings, travel 7 miles east on US 290, then turn left on FM 180 and continue 13 miles to the park entrance. Note that the access road has narrow sections in places, so drive slowly and use designated parking areas only. Trailers are permitted here, unlike some other nearby access points. The park offers additional amenities including a campsite, picnic areas, and opportunities for fishing, swimming, hiking, and biking, making it a good option for a full day or overnight outing on Somerville Lake.
