About This Access Site
Sims Marina at Navajo Dam provides a full-service launch facility for paddlers and motorized boaters accessing Navajo Lake and the San Juan River. The site features a concrete boat ramp with six launching lanes at Pine Recreation Area, plus a 10' x 60' courtesy dock with Trex decking at Sims Mesa. With elevation changes from 6,101 feet at the top to 5,997 feet at the ramp, this is a well-developed access point suitable for various watercraft including kayaks, canoes, and motorboats.

Navajo Lake is New Mexico's second largest lake and offers excellent conditions for all paddling skill levels. The San Juan River below the dam is known as a world-class fly-fishing destination with calmer flows suitable for canoeists and kayakers. The area supports a welcoming boating community and provides nearby camping, day-use areas, and scenic riverside trails. Sims Marina is a full-service facility with fuel, food, and boat rentals available.

The Simon Canyon Area of Critical Environmental Concern and other cultural sites in the region offer additional exploration opportunities for visitors interested in the area's natural and historic features. Plan ahead for parking and facilities, especially during peak season.
