About This Access Site
The Nelliston Boat Ramp provides hard surface access to the Mohawk River/Barge Canal in Montgomery County. Located on the east shore of NY Route 80, the ramp is accessed via Old Station Road south (approximately 0.14 miles toward the wastewater plant). The facility offers parking for approximately 20 cars and trailers, making it suitable for small to medium-sized launch groups.

This section of the Mohawk River is a large, well-established waterway with an average flow of 3,455 cubic feet per second and average velocity of 2.87 feet per second. With a relatively gentle gradient of 1.7 feet per mile in this area, paddlers can expect moderate current conditions typical of a navigable barge canal. The ramp provides a convenient access point for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats exploring this 166-mile waterway. Additional services and marinas are available nearby at St. Johnsville (about 6 miles downstream) and Little Falls (approximately 17-18 miles downstream).
