About This Access Site
Nelson Lake is a 2,716-acre lake in Sawyer County near Hayward, offering excellent opportunities for kayaking, canoeing, and motorized boating. The lake reaches depths of up to 33 feet and supports a healthy fishery including panfish, largemouth and smallmouth bass, northern pike, and walleye. Public boat access is available at this site, making it a convenient launching point for exploring the lake.

The access area features several on-site amenities to enhance your visit, including a modern fish house with freezer, fire pit with wood, picnic tables, and gas grills. Ample dock space is available for fishing and boating activities. The site also offers free kayak use, making it particularly accessible for paddlers without their own equipment. Note that the public boat ramp is located approximately 2 miles away and should be used for launching and loading larger boats.
