Nelson Lake

The Nelson Lake boat ramp in Starbuck provides public access for kayakers, canoeists, and small motorboats. This shallow, gravel launch area is best suited for smaller vessels (typically 12-18 feet) and may require four-wheel drive vehicles during wet conditions due to its natural surface. There are no launch fees at this access point. The lake features good water clarity with visibility around 7.5 feet during summer months.

Nelson Lake supports quality gamefish populations and has experienced improved water conditions in recent years, though submergent vegetation has expanded. Paddlers should be aware of the shallow nature of the access point and plan accordingly, especially if launching larger boats or during periods of heavy rain.
