About This Access Site
New Buffalo Beach offers convenient access to the Galien River just 3,500 feet from Lake Michigan. The facility features eight boat ramps available 24 hours a day during boating season (May 1 through ice-over), with an attendant on duty 10 am–6 pm weekdays and 6 am–8 pm weekends. The site includes trailer parking and a large adjacent parking lot; note that parking fees apply. No power loading is permitted.

For kayakers and canoeists, the City of New Buffalo recommends using the adjacent City Beach parking lot as an access point to minimize potential conflicts at the boat ramps. Kayak and paddleboard rentals are available at the ramp facility, which is conveniently located across from New Buffalo Beach and within walking distance of downtown. The Galien River provides paddling access upstream toward DNR access points near Red Arrow Highway and Glassman Park, making this a good base for exploring the river system.
