About This Access Site
Occoneechee State Park offers excellent access to the John H. Kerr Reservoir, also known as Buggs Island Lake, along the Roanoke River. This vast 50,000-acre lake extends 39 miles along the Roanoke River and offers ample opportunities for fishing, boating, and other water recreation.

The park features three boat ramps that provide launch access for both motorized and non-motorized watercraft. These ramps make it easy for kayakers, canoeists, and small boaters to access the lake. The ramps are located near the park's main entrance off VA 364, providing a convenient access point. Visitors can call 1-800-933-PARK to purchase an annual boat launch passport, which allows access to the ramps.

With 800 miles of wooded shoreline, the John H. Kerr Reservoir offers a scenic and peaceful setting for paddlers and boaters to explore. The lake's large size and relatively calm waters make it well-suited for a variety of recreational activities. Whether you're looking to fish, cruise, or simply enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings, the boat ramps at Occoneechee State Park provide an excellent launching point to access this impressive Virginia waterway.
