About This Access Site
The Oil City boat ramp is a formal, developed access site located along the left bank of the Allegheny River, approximately half a mile downriver from where Oil Creek enters the river near the Veterans Bridge and Holiday Inn. This location provides a good launching point for paddlers looking to explore the lower Allegheny River and access the scenic recreational trail that extends roughly 28 miles downstream to Emlenton Borough.

**Important Navigation Note:** Inexperienced paddlers should be aware that rapids exist in the area just above this access point near Veterans Bridge. Novice and inexperienced canoeists are advised to portage around these rapids along the shallower river bank. Experienced canoeists attempting the rapids should wear properly fitted life jackets. The Oil City access point itself avoids these hazards and provides a safer launch for most skill levels.

From this location, paddlers can enjoy the Allegheny River's scenic descent through northwestern Pennsylvania's rugged hills, with connections to the Oil Region National Heritage Area and proximity to other regional attractions like Tionesta Lake. The developed nature of this access site makes it a reliable put-in for day trips and longer paddling adventures on this popular Appalachian waterway.
