The Old Patty Bridge boat ramp provides access to the Hiwassee River, a large mountain river in southeastern Tennessee. This is a good access point for kayakers, canoeists, and small motorboats looking to explore the upper Hiwassee River.
The Hiwassee is a sizable river, flowing for over 146 miles with an average gradient of 16.7 feet per mile. At this location near the river's headwaters, paddlers can expect moderate current and relatively shallow, slow-moving flatwater conditions. Larger motorboats may have access, but the river narrows and becomes more challenging further downstream.
Nearby recreation areas include the Cherokee National Forest, and there are several campgrounds within 10 miles of the boat ramp. Visitors should be prepared for the mountain environment, bring appropriate safety gear, and check water levels and conditions before heading out. This access point can provide a scenic and peaceful launch point to experience the upper Hiwassee River.
