About This Access Site
Olson Lake is a 162-acre artificial impoundment located within Rock Cut State Park in Winnebago County. This scenic access point provides convenient launch facilities for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboat operators. The lake is stocked with walleye, largemouth bass, northern pike, perch, crappie, bluegill, and pumpkinseed, making it popular for both paddling and fishing activities. Note that special fishing regulations apply to certain species on this lake, so anglers should review current Illinois DNR guidelines before fishing.

As an artificial silt basin designed to protect Pierce Lake (located directly downstream), Olson Lake offers calm, protected waters ideal for paddlers of various skill levels. The surrounding Rock Cut State Park provides scenic woodland setting with 3,092 acres of natural area to explore. There is no boat dock available at this access point, so plan accordingly for your visit. For specific information about launch fees, operating hours, parking availability, and current conditions, contact Rock Cut State Park directly or check the Illinois Department of Natural Resources website.
