About This Access Site
The Bushyhead boat ramp provides access to Oologah Lake on the Verdigris River, a major waterway located approximately 30 miles northeast of Tulsa via US Highway 169 and Oklahoma Highway 88. This is a popular launch point for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboaters looking to explore the expansive lake, which offers excellent conditions for fishing, water skiing, swimming, and recreational boating on its wide, calm waters.

The Verdigris River feeding into Oologah Lake is a substantial waterway—a major river system draining over 8,100 square miles with an average flow of 6,586 cubic feet per second. The lake itself provides a more stable paddling environment compared to the river's average velocity of 4.6 feet per second upstream. Multiple recreation areas with additional boat ramps and facilities are scattered around the lake, including options at Redbud Bay, Hawthorn Bluff, and other locations, giving paddlers flexibility in their launch and landing points.

Facilities at the lake include parking, boat ramps, and nearby campground amenities such as showers and picnic areas, making it convenient for day trips or extended outings. The area is easily accessible by trailer and vehicle, making it suitable for launching both kayaks and larger recreational boats.
