Opitz Public Water Access provides a primitive boat launch on Opitz Lake near Eden in Marshall County. This access point is the primary public entry to Opitz Lake, a meandered lake managed by the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Department. The ramp accommodates boats up to approximately 12-18 feet, making it suitable for small recreational boats, kayaks, and canoes. There are no launch fees at this location.
The site serves as a gateway to exploring the lake and the surrounding Waubay Wetland Management District and Waubay National Wildlife Refuge areas, which offer excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing and paddling in a protected natural setting. Note that water conditions can fluctuate seasonally, and high water periods may occasionally impact access. Paddlers should check current conditions before visiting and be prepared for a rustic launch experience typical of primitive access sites.
