About This Access Site
Welles Park in Breckenridge provides boat access to the Otter Tail River, Minnesota's eighth-longest river and a designated 157-mile state water trail. This access point allows paddlers and boaters to explore a waterway that features both peaceful, slow-moving sections and more challenging areas with rock rapids, fast water through culverts, and hazardous dams. The river begins in Elbow Lake to the east and flows westward through numerous lakes and recreational areas.

**Important Safety Note:** Before launching, paddlers should thoroughly review maps and identify hazard locations, as the Otter Tail River contains significant obstacles including dangerous dams and culverts with potentially limited headroom. Water conditions can vary considerably along the trail. For additional boat access options on the Otter Tail River and its tributaries, consult the Minnesota DNR's Recreation Compass website. For specific information about facilities, hours, or conditions at Welles Park, contact the DNR Northwest Headquarters at 218-308-2372 or visit their office in Bemidji.
