Oyster Harbor Boat Ramp provides public access to the scenic waters of Oyster Harbor and the Chesapeake Bay on Virginia's Eastern Shore. Located in Cape Charles, this ramp offers a convenient launching point for kayakers, canoeists, and small trailered boats.
The harbor itself is around 8 acres in size, with a 1,100-foot long turning basin that reaches depths of up to 5 feet. Access to the open waters of the Chesapeake is available via the 7-mile Sand Shoal Channel, which maintains a minimum depth of 24 feet. This makes Oyster Harbor a suitable launch site for a variety of small watercraft.
Paddlers and boaters should be aware of the potential for hidden oyster bars and other underwater hazards, especially at low tide. The nearby Wise Point boat ramp in the Eastern Shore of Virginia National Wildlife Refuge may provide an alternative access point to explore the region's coastal waterways. While use of the Oyster Harbor ramp is free to the public, visitors are advised to check for any current fees or regulations before launching.
