About This Access Site
Paintsville Lake State Park offers a well-developed public access point for boaters and paddlers in eastern Kentucky's Johnson County. The handicap-accessible boat launch ramp is centrally located within the park and provides convenient water access to Paintsville Lake, a scenic impoundment surrounded by wooded hills. The full-service marina on-site features 84 open slips and 80 covered slips, along with rentals for fishing boats, houseboats, pontoons, and pedal boats if you don't have your own watercraft.

This is an ideal access point for kayakers, canoeists, and recreational boaters looking for a calm-water paddling destination. The lake setting offers excellent fishing opportunities—trout is regularly stocked by Fish & Wildlife—and the surrounding park provides additional amenities including multiple hiking trails with scenic views and wildlife viewing opportunities. To reach the ramp, take KY 40 west of Paintsville and turn right on Highway 2275 to access the lake. The park also features picnic shelters and pavilions available for group use.
