About This Access Site
Pelican Point offers one of the few public boat ramp and dock facilities for accessing the Missouri River in this region of Harrison County, Nebraska. This 36-acre park provides the primary public launch point for the area, making it a key access point for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats heading onto the river. The site includes primitive camping facilities with multiple campsites available, along with basic amenities such as picnic tables, fire grates, shelters, and water access.

The Missouri River at this location is a major waterway with substantial flow—averaging over 121,000 cubic feet per second—and a moderate gradient of approximately 3.9 feet per mile. Paddlers should expect strong current and come prepared for a powerful river system. The river's high average velocity of 7.4 feet per second means conditions can change quickly, particularly after heavy rainfall or during high water periods. This access point serves as an excellent put-in for downstream paddling trips and is suitable for various water-based recreation activities.

To reach the ramp, take Old Jamestown Road to the entrance of Sioux Passage County Park and follow the road through the park to the river access. A park permit is required. The primitive facilities and straightforward boat ramp make this a practical, no-frills launching point for serious paddlers and boaters exploring this section of the Missouri River.
