About This Access Site
Peshtigo Flowage #1, located near Johnson Falls Dam in Peshtigo, provides convenient access to the scenic Peshtigo River system in Marinette County. Parking is available on Wisconsin Public Service property near the dam and along angler access roads on state forest property. This is an excellent launch point for exploring the interconnected flowages and reservoirs in the area, including Caldron Falls Flowage and High Falls Reservoir, which feature numerous bays suitable for paddling. Note that launch fees apply at this facility.

The water below the dam is shallow and sandy, making it ideal for canoes, kayaks, and small motorboats. Paddlers can arrange shuttles from this location or use alternate boat launches further north on County Highway BB for extended trips. The Peshtigo River offers varied paddling opportunities, from quiet flowage sections to Class 1 and Class 2 rapids downstream. A scenic float down the river ultimately leads to the open waters of Green Bay, making this an excellent base for both day trips and longer adventures.
