Pettit Lake Day Use Area, located near Sawtooth City in the heart of central Idaho's Sawtooth National Recreation Area, offers a boat ramp for paddlers and boaters seeking access to this scenic alpine lake. The facility operates on a first-come, first-serve basis with a day-use fee (unless you're camping at one of the nearby campgrounds). The boat ramp is approximately a half-mile from Pettit Lake Campground and provides ideal launch conditions for kayaks, canoes, and small watercraft. Note that motorized boats and personal watercraft are not permitted on Pettit Lake, making it an excellent destination for quiet paddling.
This site is well-suited for day trips and multi-day adventures, with three nearby campgrounds available for overnight stays—Pettit Lake Campground, North Shore Campground, and Smokey Bear Campground. The area provides toilet facilities and is surrounded by the stunning White Clouds Wilderness complex, offering paddlers the opportunity to explore pristine alpine waters while enjoying direct access to hiking opportunities like the 16-mile Tin Cup Trail. Plan to bring all necessary gear and supplies for the day, as there are limited facilities directly at the ramp.
