The Pigeon River Fish & Wildlife Area is a 12,134-acre protected recreation area in northeastern Indiana featuring a boat ramp on Fish Lake near LaGrange. This access point provides entry to the area's 529 acres of lakes and impoundments, making it suitable for kayakers, canoeists, and motorized boaters. Electric motors are permitted on the lakes and ponds within the area. Parking is available in designated parking lots only.
Beyond Fish Lake, paddlers can explore the broader Fish & Wildlife Area, which includes additional popular water bodies like Troxel Lake, Beaver Dam Lake, and the Mongo Millpond. The property also encompasses 17 miles of the Pigeon River itself, offering varied paddling opportunities through a mix of hardwood forests, wetlands, and upland habitat. The area is managed for multiple uses including fishing, hunting, hiking, and picnicking, so expect to encounter other recreationalists, particularly during hunting seasons.
