The Pigeon River Fish & Wildlife Area offers multiple boat ramps throughout its 12,134-acre property in northeastern Indiana, providing convenient access to this large, moderately fast-flowing river. The Pigeon River at this location is a substantial waterway (stream order 7) with an average flow of 1,236 cubic feet per second and a moderate gradient of 23.7 feet per mile, making it suitable for experienced paddlers. The site features 17 miles of river access and 529 acres of lakes and ponds within the property.
Paddlers should note several important restrictions: kayaking and canoeing are allowed but are restricted during waterfowl season—contact the local DNR office for current dates before planning your trip. Electric motors are permitted on lakes and ponds. Swimming is prohibited throughout the area.
