The Pigeon River Fish & Wildlife Area in LaGrange County offers multiple boat ramps for accessing this large, flowing river system. The Pigeon River is a significant waterway—a 69-mile stream with an average flow of 1,236 cubic feet per second and an average velocity of 3.36 feet/second, making it suitable for experienced paddlers. The river drops 1,644 feet over its length with an average gradient of 23.7 feet/mile, indicating moderate to strong current conditions in many sections.

Kayaking and canoeing are permitted throughout the 12,134-acre Fish & Wildlife Area, which encompasses 17 miles of river frontage, though paddling may be restricted during waterfowl season—contact the office for current regulations.
