Pigeon River Fish & Wildlife Area offers boat ramp access to Atwood Lake in northwest Indiana's LaGrange County. This 11,794-acre wildlife area encompasses 529 acres of lakes and impoundments plus 17 miles of the Pigeon River, making it a substantial paddling destination. Electric motors are permitted on the lakes and ponds. Restroom facilities (pit toilets) are available at the park headquarters and Curtis Creek Trout Rearing Station.
**Important restrictions for paddlers:** Canoeing and kayaking are allowed but are subject to closures during waterfowl season—contact the office ahead of your visit for current restrictions. Swimming is prohibited. No paved trails exist within the property, and there are no paved access areas. A convenience station with gas and snacks is located in nearby Mongo, Indiana.
The area features diverse habitat including hardwoods, wetlands, and upland fields. Plan ahead by calling to confirm seasonal restrictions and to identify the specific boat ramp location that best suits your paddling route.
