About This Access Site
Pilot Knob is a boat ramp access point on Kentucky Lake, the impoundment of the Tennessee River near Eva in Benton County. This location provides access to one of the largest reservoir systems in the eastern United States, created by Barkley Dam. Kentucky Lake is known for its calm, stable water conditions typical of a managed reservoir, making it suitable for a wide range of watercraft from small kayaks to larger motorboats.

The Tennessee River system drains over 40,000 square miles and maintains significant water flow year-round, though as a reservoir the water at this location will be relatively calm compared to free-flowing sections upstream. Paddlers and boaters should be aware that this is an active recreational area that may experience boat traffic, particularly during warmer months and weekends. The lake elevation remains relatively stable due to dam management, though water levels can fluctuate seasonally.

Access via Pilot Knob provides opportunity for various water activities typical of large reservoirs. Visitors should be prepared for changing weather conditions and potential boat traffic when planning their outing. As with any large water body, proper safety equipment and awareness of current conditions are recommended before launching.
