About This Access Site
Pioneer Mine Pit is a boat ramp access on the north side of Shagawa Lake near Ely, located immediately adjacent to County Road 88. This is one of two main public accesses to the lake and serves paddlers and boaters launching on Shagawa Lake. Be aware that parking is very limited at this location, so plan accordingly or consider arriving early during peak season.
This 24-hour public access point accommodates both trailer launches and carry-in boats. The ramp can typically handle boats up to 12-18 feet, though capacity varies. From here, paddlers have access to Shagawa Lake's 3,000+ acres of water. Nearby, Fenske Lake Campground (reservable) is located within 10 miles and provides overnight camping options for extended trips in the area.
