Plum Creek Dam

Located northeast of Algona off 240th Street, Plum Creek Dam provides public access to the East Fork Des Moines River. The 7-acre site features a boat ramp suitable for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats looking to explore this section of river. The adjacent Wildwood Recreation Area offers additional amenities just across the water to the west.

The East Fork Des Moines River flows through a lightly to moderately timbered floodplain in this area, with primarily agricultural land upstream. Paddlers can expect a scenic journey through a mix of wooded sections and open terrain. The river supports several constructed fishing riffles and is known for catfish and northern pike, making it popular with anglers as well. This access point serves as a gateway to exploring the East Fork waterway, which is part of the broader Des Moines River system designated as a state watertrail with directional signage and informational resources along the route.
