About This Access Site
Located at the confluence of the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay in Scotland, Maryland, Point Lookout State Park offers a dedicated boat ramp and canoe/kayak launch facility on the west side of Route 5. The park is an excellent base for exploring three scenic water trails within Point Lookout Creek, Lake Conoy, and around the Point into the Chesapeake Bay. Note that these trails are unmarked and not regularly patrolled, so paddlers should plan accordingly and bring navigation aids.

The site provides extensive amenities to support your visit, including a fishing pier, dock access, picnic areas, and on-site camping options. The park also has supplies, food service, and showers available. Point Lookout offers both day-use and overnight camping opportunities, making it suitable for paddlers planning extended trips on the Bay or local waterways.

Be prepared for the dynamic conditions where river and bay waters meet. The area is part of the National Park Service's "Find Your Chesapeake" project and has significant historical importance as a Civil War site. This location works well as a launching point for Bay exploration or as a destination for local paddling trips, though paddlers should exercise caution on unmarked trails and be aware of Chesapeake Bay conditions.
