Pointe Mouillee State Game Area offers public boat access to Lake Erie's western end near Rockwood, Michigan. The main launch features a developed boat ramp and dock with a large parking area at the mouth of the Huron River. This is a primary access point for paddlers and boaters exploring the western Lake Erie ecosystem, including scenic marshlands, nature refuges, and nearby islands. The facility is open to the public at no charge.
The area is best suited for exploring the northern marshlands and Lake Erie waters, where you'll find scenic refuges and islands. However, paddlers should note that the southern section features several miles of rock dykes that should not be entered. The surrounding landscape is a respected waterfowl habitat, so expect active hunting activity during waterfowl season. Two smaller gravel ramps are also available on Roberts Road near Mouillee Creek for smaller vessels accessing the southern marshland, though these are primarily used for duck hunting and fishing.
