Located in McCall, the Ponderosa State Park boat ramp provides convenient access to scenic Payette Lake. The facility features a double-wide boat ramp with bilateral docks, along with additional docking areas near the campground and day-use areas. Recent improvements including ADA accessibility upgrades and new docks make this a well-maintained launch point for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboaters. The ramp is situated right at the parking lot where the Upper Payette River enters the lake.
Ponderosa State Park offers excellent amenities for extended trips, including a nearby reservable campground (Grouse Campground within 10 miles) and multiple swim beaches throughout the park. The park is well-maintained and popular with water recreationists. For paddlers looking to explore beyond the lake, the Box Creek Wilderness Study Area—managed by the BLM with over 440 acres of rolling to steep terrain—provides additional recreational opportunities in the region. This is an ideal base for both day trips on Payette Lake and longer adventures in the McCall area.
