Powell Park offers boat ramp access to Avish Bayou on Sam Rayburn Reservoir, a massive 114,000-acre lake located in San Augustine County in the Big Thicket region of Texas. This concrete ramp provides year-round access for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats. The reservoir spans a scenic area known for its diverse native flora and fauna, including orchids, insect-eating plants, and numerous wildlife species, making it an excellent destination for both paddling and fishing.
This is a non-reservable access area. As with many ramps on Sam Rayburn, water levels can fluctuate seasonally, potentially affecting ramp usability during low-water periods. Before heading out, check with local authorities or the operating agency regarding current water conditions and ramp accessibility. Nearby paddlers should also note that multiple parks and access areas are operated by different agencies (Corps of Engineers, U.S. Forest Service, Texas Parks & Wildlife, and county management), so amenities and facilities vary by location.
