About This Access Site
The Puako boat ramp provides access to the Pacific Ocean along the Kohala Coast of Hawaii's Big Island. This is a single-lane, 16-foot wide concrete boat ramp with an adjacent loading dock. The ramp is located off Puako Beach Drive, less than a mile from Highway 19.

Paddlers and small boaters can use this site to access the open ocean and explore the scenic Puako Bay area. The ramp may be affected by storm conditions at times, so it's advisable to check on the current status before heading out. Parking is available nearby, but be mindful not to block the boat turnaround area.

The Pacific waters around Puako offer diverse paddling and boating opportunities. Experienced ocean kayakers and canoeists can explore the rugged coastline, while motor boaters can venture out to fish or cruise the beautiful Kohala shores. Nearby, the Pu'ukoholā Heiau National Historic Site provides an interesting cultural destination for visitors to the area.
