Rainbow Plaza is a recently renovated public boat launch in downtown Reedsport, located 9 river miles upstream from the mouth of the Umpqua River. This popular facility handles approximately 10,000 launches annually and offers solid infrastructure for paddlers and boaters, including ample parking (34 boat/trailer spaces plus 10 vehicle spaces), upgraded launch areas with docks, restroom facilities, a boat wash station, and a fish cleaning station. The modern amenities make it a convenient starting point for exploring the lower Umpqua.
From Rainbow Plaza, paddlers can access the lower Umpqua River with its characteristic coastal estuary conditions. The location provides good access for both downstream paddling toward the river mouth and upstream exploration. Nearby, paddlers can also visit Fawn Creek Campground, which offers a quieter alternative access point where a small boat ramp provides access to the confluence of Fawn Creek and Smith River.
The area offers excellent camping options within 10 miles, including three reservable facilities: Umpqua Sand Camping, Tahkenitch Campground, and Eel Creek Campground. These nearby campgrounds make Rainbow Plaza an ideal base for multi-day paddling trips on the lower Umpqua River system.
