Ray Wayside Park provides convenient access to the Silver River and Ocklawaha Aquatic Preserve near Silver Springs. Located at the base of the Bert Dosh Bridge on SR 40 in Marion County, this facility is popular with both kayakers and boaters because of its proximity to Ocala and its two-way river access. The park features two boat ramps for trailered vessels and a separate kayak launch area, making it suitable for various watercraft types.
This access point works well for paddlers exploring upstream on the Silver River or downstream toward the Ocklawaha River and its wild preserve areas. Note that the Silver River has shallow water in many areas, so boaters should plan accordingly. The park operates on an honor system for fees—look for numbered envelopes at the pay station. Be aware that the ramp surface can be slippery, so exercise caution when launching. Several campgrounds are located within 10 miles, including Lake Eaton, Lake Shore Group Camp, and Fore Lake Campground, all offering reservable sites for multi-day paddling trips.
