Rice Lake Wildlife Area

Located on the north shore of Rice Lake near Joice in Worth County, this public boat ramp provides access to one of Iowa's few natural shallow lakes. The access site features a gravel road leading to a boat ramp with parking area and loop turnaround, offering a quiet, remote launching spot. This location is ideal for kayakers and canoeists seeking a peaceful paddling experience away from crowds.

Rice Lake spans approximately 1,200 acres and welcomes boaters of all types, including paddlers, anglers, and motorized watercraft. The lake supports populations of bass, bluegill, walleye, and yellow perch for fishing enthusiasts. Be aware that water levels can fluctuate seasonally—low water conditions have been documented in past years. A second public boat ramp is available on the lake's south shore if needed. The lake is also an important wildlife refuge and migration area for birds, making it an excellent destination for nature observation.
