Rocky Point

Rocky Point Beach Park in Essex offers a well-developed public boat launch on the Back River with convenient access to Hawk Cove. The facility features both deep-water and shallow-water two-lane ramps, accommodating kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, and larger motorized vessels. The park is located at the intersection of Barrison Point Road and Rocky Point Road; from there, head south on Rocky Point Road for approximately 0.6 miles to reach the park entrance.

Paddlers should be aware that conditions can be choppy, particularly as you move into open water. Novice kayakers and recreational paddlers are advised to stay close to shore, especially in areas away from the protected cove. The site provides good access to both the Back River and Middle River systems. Please note that seasonal launching fees apply during the summer season (Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day), and personal watercraft must use the boat ramp. The nearby Star-Spangled Banner National Historic Trail and Baltimore National Heritage Area offer additional exploration opportunities in this historically rich region of the Chesapeake Bay area.
