Sam Dale Lake is a 194-acre, forest-surrounded impoundment located in Sam Dale Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area, approximately five miles northwest of Johnsonville in northwestern Wayne County. This access site features one of two available boat ramps on the lake, making it convenient for launching kayaks, canoes, and small motorized boats. The lake is relatively fertile and well-maintained, offering a calm water environment suitable for paddlers of various skill levels.
The site is part of a developed recreation area with amenities including parking, picnic shelters, playgrounds, and a concession stand nearby. A 2-mile out-and-back trail begins at the southwestern parking lot and follows the southern shoreline, offering scenic views of the forested lake. Note that motorized boats are limited to 10 horsepower, keeping the lake quieter and safer for paddlers. Boat rental facilities are also available for those without their own equipment.
