About This Access Site
Sandy Lake Dam and Recreation Area provides excellent access for kayakers, canoeists, and boaters with two dedicated lake boat ramps and one river ramp. The site is divided into north and south sections by Sandy Lake Dam, each with separate vehicle access roads—note that only pedestrian traffic is permitted across the dam itself. This makes it ideal for paddlers looking to explore both the lake and river environments.
The recreation area offers comprehensive amenities to support a full day or extended trip, including flush and vault restrooms, showers, drinking water, laundry facilities, and a dump station. Additional features include docks, a fishing pier, and beach access. A 60-site campground with reservable sites (including pull-through options and electrical hookups) is available for those planning overnight stays during the spring through fall season. The site also features hiking trails and playgrounds, making it a good option for families combining paddling with other activities.
