**Important Notice:** The Sanford-Yake boat ramp and parking area have been **closed since February 2018** due to parking lot damage and ongoing erosion of the Permian Red-Bed banks adjacent to the ramp. Before planning a trip to this location, contact Lake Meredith National Recreation Area to confirm current status and identify alternative access points on the Canadian River.
**Location & Directions:** The access site is located near Fritch in Hutchinson County, along the Canadian River portion of Lake Meredith. From the east side of Fritch, take Highway 136 to Eagle Boulevard, then head north on Fritch Fortress Road for about 3 miles to High Plains Road. Turn right on High Plains, then left onto Sanford Yake Road and follow it to its end.
**Alternative Options:** With this ramp unavailable, paddlers should explore other boat launches within Lake Meredith National Recreation Area or contact the park directly for current recommendations. The area offers excellent camping at nearby facilities including Harbor Bay, Chimney Hollow, and Blue West Campgrounds (all within 10 miles). Lake Meredith National Recreation Area remains a popular destination for boating and paddling amid the Texas Panhandle plains, and the National Park Service is actively working to develop additional water access points.
