The Santiam Rest Area boat ramp provides convenient access to the North Fork Santiam River directly off I-5 (Milepost 241) in Millersburg. This 2.7-acre access site is managed by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and can be reached via service roads from either the northbound or southbound sides of the rest stop. The ramp and parking area sit on a flat bench between the river and an old riverbank, offering a straightforward launch point for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats.
Be prepared for rough access conditions—the service road includes a steep section near the old riverbank, so approach with caution, especially with trailers. The site is relatively limited in size, having been developed along an abandoned railroad right-of-way, but it serves as the primary public access point for this stretch of the river. Note that property downstream is largely private, so plan your trips accordingly. This location also provides proximity to Ankeny National Wildlife Refuge near the Santiam-Willamette confluence, offering additional wildlife viewing opportunities in the area.
