About This Access Site
The Sauvie Island Boat Ramp provides public access to the Multnomah Channel at River Mile 18.2, located within the scenic Sauvie Island Wildlife Area just northwest of Portland. To reach the ramp, take the Sauvie Island bridge off U.S. 30 and follow Reeder Road to Gilbert River Boat Ramp Road. This small, straightforward launch is ideal for kayakers, canoeists, and other recreational boaters looking to explore the quiet waters of the Multnomah Channel, which eventually connects to the Columbia River.

The area is notable for its wildlife viewing opportunities, situated directly adjacent to the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife's Sauvie Island Wildlife Refuge and across from the Burlington Bottoms wetland. Be aware that after heavy rains, both the Multnomah Channel and Columbia River often contain large amounts of floating timber, including submerged snags—operate at reduced speeds in these conditions. The calm waters here make it an excellent starting point for paddlers seeking a scenic, wildlife-rich paddling experience in the Portland metro area.
