About This Access Site
Scenic Park S provides public access to the Missouri River in South Sioux City, Nebraska, offering a convenient launch point for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats. Located across the river from Sioux City, Iowa, this city-owned facility serves as a gateway to one of North America's major river systems.

The Missouri River at this location is a powerful, wide waterway with significant current. Paddlers should be prepared for an average flow of over 121,000 cubic feet per second and velocities around 7.4 feet per second. The river's major shipping channel and strong current make this best suited for experienced paddlers and boaters comfortable with large-river conditions. Those planning multi-day trips will find this a useful access point along the Missouri River Water Trail.

Before launching, check current water conditions and river levels, as the Missouri's flow and water levels can vary seasonally. Be aware of barge traffic and other commercial vessel activity in this section. The proximity to Sioux City's amenities makes this a practical base for longer river adventures or day trips.
