Located in West Portsmouth, this boat ramp provides convenient access to Turkey Creek Lake, one of two scenic lakes within Shawnee State Park's 68-acre water recreation area. The ramp is well-maintained and suitable for launching kayaks, canoes, and motorized vessels. Turkey Creek Lake permits gas motors at idle speed, making it more accommodating for powered boats than the adjacent Roosevelt Lake, which restricts use to hand-powered and electric-only watercraft.
The lake offers a peaceful paddling experience in the foothills of the Appalachian region. In addition to kayaking and canoeing, the site is popular for fishing and general recreational boating. If you don't have your own vessel, canoe rentals are available through the park. The serene, natural setting makes Turkey Creek Lake an excellent choice for both beginners and experienced paddlers seeking a calm water environment away from heavy motor traffic.
