The Sherburne WMA boat ramp provides access to Little Alabama and Big Alabama Bayous, scenic waterways nestled within Louisiana's vast Atchafalaya Basin. Located in Pointe Coupee Parish near Lottie, this access point is ideal for kayakers and canoeists seeking a guided paddling experience—a marked 17-mile paddling trail allows visitors to explore the bayou independently. The ramp is easily accessed via Highway 975, which connects Highway 190 (north of Krotz Springs) to I-10 at Whiskey Bay.
The WMA features three concrete boat ramps throughout the complex, with this particular launch serving the Alabama Bayou waterways. The area is situated within the Atchafalaya Basin floodplain, encompassing 595,000 acres of the largest contiguous bottomland hardwood forest in the United States. In addition to paddling, the site offers fishing, birding, and nature photography opportunities along all-weather roads and trails.
Plan to access the interior primarily by boat, as most of the WMA is water-based recreation. The protected wildlife refuge setting makes this an excellent destination for wildlife viewing and peaceful paddling through Louisiana's unique bayou ecosystem.
