About This Access Site
The Smith Lake Spillway boat ramp provides access to the Sipsey Fork below the Smith Lake Dam in Walker County, Alabama. This location is well-suited for launching canoes, kayaks, and other small non-motorized boats. The ramp is located just downstream of the Highway 69 bridge crossing.

The Sipsey Fork below the dam tends to have a moderate current, with a width of around 100-150 feet. This section of the river flows through a rugged, scenic canyon landscape typical of the Appalachian foothills. Paddlers can expect a peaceful, scenic float through this remote and undeveloped area. Fishing from boats is a popular activity on this stretch of the Sipsey Fork.

While the boat ramp appears to be free to use, a fee may be collected at a nearby Riverside access point. Paddlers and boaters should exercise caution when launching and be prepared for changing water levels and conditions, as this site is located just downstream of the Smith Lake dam. Overall, the Smith Lake Spillway provides a convenient access point for exploring the beautiful Sipsey Fork by non-motorized watercraft.
